The Back The Back {Back surgery}

So Dave has been hurting since March of 2013 with his back. He rolled over in bed and hurt it {which is insane since you’d think it’d take more than that} but he has a really bad back.. pretty much an 70 yr olds back according to the Dr..
Part of it is genetics and part is the fact that he was not at all kind to his back growing up {snowboarding like a maniac, skateboarding, falling off a roof and all the other crazy things he did.}
But well we are on Back surgery #2 right now *sigh
The first one was right after he got home from his mission. Which was when I was first starting to get to know him other than all the letters we wrote to each other, we went out on like one official date… the rest was spent with me coming over and hanging at his house while he chilled on the couch. I was a bit smitten with him-  who am I kidding I still am
anyways back to this surgery… It’s been a pretty miserable year for us with Dave’s back, we haven’t went and done hardly anything because well everything hurt him to do and while I like to pretend that I can handle it all by myself I really can’t. I hate mowing the lawn and trying to fix things and trying to meet a lot of the household needs all on my own- it stinks and gets me overwhelmed fast.
So by the time we finally saved up the moola to pay for his surgery we were very anxious to get it done and get him feeling if not all the way better at least to a manageable pain.
{pardon the lovely phone photos– they are all I had}

Back surgery still is not fun and pretty stressful! Dave had two herniated discs and neither the shots or anything else we tried worked so Surgery it was. :( I was so thankful that Dave’s parents went up there to wait with me while he went in to surgery, And it was nice to have them close by to help me move Dave around that first little while. We are happy that he is feeling much better now with the pain gone and no more crooked walking :)
1384870676330_0269 Ellie also loved having Daddy home for the two weeks he was able to take off work and loved cuddling and watching tv with him on the couch.. she was a little bit of a hypochondriac  and said a few times “owww, my back hurts. Dad made me sick” :) .

1385499709251_0267 Dave while was still sore having to go back to work {he only had a limited vacation time} I could tell he was pretty anxious to get away from the craziness that is home life with 4 kids, and it’s always nice to get back into a more normal life routine.
We’re hoping  for many more adventures next spring and summer now that his back won’t be killing him so much. {Hopefully some weight loss for both of us, and stretching and exercises that might help his backtoo…. Cuz back pain is plain miserable!}

Pumpkins, Goblins, Witches …Oh My!

After our normal carving pumpkins party we’ve started the tradition of shutting off all the lights, lighting the pumpkins and letting the kids run around and play with glowsticks!
They of course think it’s a blast and mom loves it cuz I get to take some fun long shutter speed photos.
Pumpkin Carving with all of it’s yucky mess :)
Millie was very curious as to what all the hubbub was about so I let her get in on the action
there was a minuet of  panic while I thought she was going to take a big mouthful, but she thought better of it after she got it real close and smelled it :) Than she thought it would just be better to play with it.. smart choice
Brynley wanted a minecraft pumpkin {anyone else’s kids obsessed with minecraft too… I can’t believe how imaginative my kids are with it sometimes}
and any guesses on what Ellie wanted hers carved as??? {If you have a my little pony obsession in your house you know it}… Scary Nightmare Moon pony :) IMG_5948_0191
And Payton wanted to be a Minecraft Snow Golem… and we are all about cheap costumes in our household :) Oh you need some boxes and paint for your costume- Awesome!
So we had a Snow Golem, a Princess sofia with her prized Amulet, :) a little cute pumpkin and….
we also had.. try as I might to convince her to be something else ya know like a princess, or a kitty
{– note this is after years of wanting to be this— }
I finally gave in and let her be
A Vampire Princess
{I think she just loves wearing the vampire teeth!}  we’re really hoping next year we go back to more little girly things :)
Hope you guys had a spooky Halloween too!

Fall leaves

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.

birdsnest_0061I have so many happy memories of raking and playing in the leaves! I’m pretty sure childhood just isn’t complete without it :)
birdsnest_0064Our kids  love the leaves and it seems that in the fall that is what they want to do everyday– go to grandmas and help her rake up the leaves
But when its time to get really serious about it, out comes the four wheeler and they make pretty quick work of it!

My big helpers :) I love that they have so many opportunities to work and serve!
IMG_5901_0245Millie even chipped in with the help :) she fulfilled the entertainment role. She was determined to get that pacifier
IMG_5884_0228And what is the best part of raking up the leaves???! Playing in them of course!

Sweet Homecoming

 The day that seemed forever in coming finally arrived!

Dave’s parents got back from their mission!!! {They served in the Indianapolis, Indian mission– if you want to learn more about missions/our beliefs click here}
There of course was a very big welcoming party of family waiting for them! So big that we pretty much had people clear down the street lined up reminiscent of a parade ready to welcome them home!

Our sweet millie had yet to meet her grandparents and Payter was pretty dang excited to have her meet them!

When they finally arrived everyone ran to greet them! None I don’t think quite as fast as Payton {can you tell he missed his grandparents?!}

After Payton got in his initial hug and kisses he had to run and get his little sister to meet grandma! I won’t lie I thought it was adorable!

Meeting for the first time!

We are so happy to have our parents {& neighbors!} finally home! We are so proud of them for serving such a wonderful mission but we’ve dearly missed them too! Hopefully they’re prepared for a lot of catch up time and us being constantly around now!
